Below is an overview of our major Science and Health units this year.   We begin the year with mini-units on classification and identifying Alaskan Plants.  In the first quarter we spend a lot of time working on routines,  team building and collaboration.

*Questions: What keeps buildings and other structures from falling down? What forces act on structures? How is form related to function?

Our place in the Solar System

Focus on: the components of our solar system, gravity
Questions: Why haven’t we found life as we know it on other planets? What’s so special about the Earth? What are the celestial bodies in our solar system and what affect do they have on one another?

Waste Management

Focus on: waste management, environmental impact of packaging and waste, recycling, pollution
Question: Where do all the things we throw away REALLY go? How does this affect life on our planet?

We will be covering the following health topics in science class this year. 
(Note: most 6th graders will also be taking a Health elective that covers additional topics).
