Mission Complete!

Students finished the Mars Project today constructing their Orbs consisting of all the aspects of their mission they researched and completed in the past week. There was an awards ceremony with Certificates of Achievement graciously donated to MLMS  by Jalapenos in Eagle River followed these fun pictures!

Wrapping up the Mars Project

Our launch activities have been in full swing and are now coming to a close. Students worked on colored panels that dealt with different aspects of Math and Science centered around Mars. On Tuesday, kids will be encouraged to show their core teachers the results of their efforts. We will be cutting out the panels to make an orb. There will be an awards ceremony with certificates of Achievement graciously donated to MLMS  by Jalapenos in Eagle River followed by a mass picture taking opportunity.

We are looking forward to great weather on Wednesday for the picnic. Thank you volunteers for helping us make this last big event possible.

Launch to Mars!

We launched our end-of-the-year Mars project today in the 6th grade pod!

For the rest of the year there will not be any *new* homework in any core classes. However, students who still have missing work or grades they need to make up can still hand in work until Friday, May 15th.

Our initial launch activities (Today and Monday) include:

A. Timeline and Mars Simulators
Researching past missions to Mars, and experiencing some real Mars simulations on Mars Quest

B. Missions & Team Name Plate
From your Mars team, select your mission, and begin working on your Team Name Plate (White Panel 1).
– Begin thinking about your Habitat Design (Mars Habitat Simulation)

C. Mars Presentation

6th Grade Upcoming Field Trips

Reminder: Hike & Picnic Permission Slips are due Friday!

The 6th grade team will be going on two field trips this month. On May 7th we will be hiking a portion of the South Fork of Eagle River Trail (to the river and back) and on May 20th we will be walking the Coyote trails to Mirror Lake (park) to enjoy an end-of-the-year picnic.

The cost for both is $8 to cover our busing to the hike and food for the picnic. If your child cannot attend one of the events or needs assistance covering the cost, please notify their  1st period teacher.

We need parentSouth Fork volunteers to join us! If you are interested in helping with supervision and motivation on the trail or helping cook at the picnic, please contact your child’s 1st period teacher.

We look forward to enjoying the spring  weather and time together as a team!
